Copyright and Licensing Policy

Journal of Responsible AI & Ethics (JRAIE)

The Journal of Responsible AI & Ethics (JRAIE) supports the lawful dissemination, reuse, and preservation of scholarly work through a clear and transparent copyright and licensing framework. The journal operates on an open-access basis and seeks to ensure that authors retain appropriate rights over their work while readers and other users are able to reuse published material under clearly stated license terms.

This policy applies to articles and other scholarly content published by JRAIE unless a specific item contains a separate rights statement.

1. Copyright Ownership

Authors retain copyright in their published work.

Publication in JRAIE does not require authors to transfer copyright ownership of their article to the journal or publisher. Authors remain the copyright holders of their original scholarly work, subject to the rights granted through the applicable open-access license.

By submitting and accepting publication in JRAIE, authors grant the journal and publisher the necessary non-exclusive rights to publish, distribute, preserve, index, archive, and make the article publicly available under the applicable Creative Commons license while authors retain copyright ownership.

Where a manuscript includes material owned by another copyright holder, responsibility for securing any required permission rests with the author.

2. Open-Access License

Articles published in JRAIE are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Under this license, users may copy, distribute, display, reproduce, share, adapt, transform, and build upon the published material for lawful purposes, including commercial purposes, provided that the conditions of the license are satisfied.

The journal applies the license transparently so that readers, authors, institutions, repositories, researchers, and other users can understand the permitted forms of reuse.

3. Conditions of Reuse

Reuse of material published under the CC BY 4.0 License requires appropriate attribution.

Users should, where reasonably possible:

Credit the original author or authors.
Identify the original source of publication.
Provide appropriate bibliographic information.
Include a reference to the applicable Creative Commons license.
Indicate whether changes, adaptations, translations, or modifications have been made.
Avoid implying endorsement by the original authors, journal, editors, or publisher unless such endorsement has been explicitly provided.

Users may not apply legal or technological restrictions that prevent others from exercising rights granted under the applicable license.

4. Author Rights

Authors retain the right to use, distribute, and develop their published work in accordance with the terms of the applicable license and other relevant legal requirements.

Authors may use their published article in teaching, academic presentations, institutional repositories, research profiles, personal scholarly websites, subsequent scholarly works, and other academic contexts, provided that appropriate acknowledgment of the published source is maintained.

Authors may also share the published version of their article through lawful academic and institutional channels.

5. Publisher's Role

The publisher facilitates editorial processing, publication, online dissemination, metadata management, preservation, and access to the journal's scholarly content.

Publication by JRAIE does not remove the author's underlying copyright ownership.

The journal and publisher may display, distribute, archive, index, and otherwise make published articles available as part of the scholarly record in accordance with the journal's publication model and applicable license terms.

6. Author Responsibility for Copyright Compliance

Authors are responsible for ensuring that material included in a submitted manuscript does not unlawfully infringe the copyright, intellectual property, privacy, confidentiality, or other legal rights of third parties.

This responsibility applies to:

Figures
Photographs
Tables
Illustrations
Maps
Screenshots
Survey instruments
Extended quotations
Data visualizations
Previously published text
Software-related material
Images generated or obtained from external sources
Supplementary files

Where third-party permission is required, authors should obtain the necessary authorization before publication.

7. Third-Party Material

The CC BY 4.0 License applied to a JRAIE article does not automatically extend to third-party material that is separately identified as being subject to different copyright or licensing conditions.

Where a figure, table, image, dataset, quotation, or other component is reproduced under permission or another license, the relevant credit line or rights statement should be followed.

Users who wish to reuse such material are responsible for determining whether additional permission is necessary.

8. Self-Archiving and Repository Deposit

JRAIE supports the dissemination of scholarly work through institutional repositories, subject repositories, academic websites, and other legitimate research-sharing platforms.

Authors may deposit and share the published version of their article in repositories and scholarly networks in accordance with the CC BY 4.0 License.

When sharing published articles, authors should preserve the integrity of the scholarly record by including article title, author information, journal details, publication information, and persistent identifiers where available.

9. Preprints

Where permitted under the journal's submission and editorial policies, prior dissemination of a manuscript as a preprint does not necessarily prevent consideration for publication.

Authors should disclose relevant preprint information during submission where applicable.

After publication, authors are encouraged to update preprint records with a citation and link to the final published version.

10. Corrections, Retractions, and Licensing

The open-access license attached to a published article does not prevent the journal from correcting, retracting, or otherwise updating the scholarly record when warranted.

Where an article is corrected or retracted, the journal may maintain access to the original publication together with a clearly identifiable correction, retraction notice, expression of concern, or other relevant editorial notice.

Reuse of corrected or retracted material should consider its current publication status.

11. Copyright Infringement Concerns

Concerns regarding possible copyright infringement should be submitted to the journal with sufficient information to identify the material in question and the basis of the concern.

The journal may review such concerns and, where appropriate, request clarification or supporting documentation from relevant parties.

Where a legitimate copyright issue is established, appropriate action may include correction of attribution, amendment of the published record, removal or replacement of specific material, or other action consistent with applicable law and publication-ethics principles.

12. License Identification

The applicable license should be displayed clearly on published articles and relevant journal webpages.

The terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License are available through the official Creative Commons platform.

License information should remain readily accessible to authors and readers so that the terms of reuse can be understood without ambiguity.

13. Policy Transparency

The Journal of Responsible AI & Ethics (JRAIE) is committed to maintaining clear information regarding copyright ownership, reuse rights, licensing conditions, and author responsibilities.

Authors retain copyright in their work, while published articles are made available under the CC BY 4.0 License, supporting lawful access, sharing, adaptation, and scholarly reuse with appropriate attribution.

The journal ensures that copyright, licensing information, and reuse permissions displayed on the website, article PDFs, and published metadata remain consistent and accurately represent the applicable rights.

This approach promotes open scholarly communication while preserving proper recognition of authorship and respect for third-party intellectual property rights.
